Living in Virginia Beach, Virginia, the tragic loss of thirty Americans and a military service dog reminds us of the commitment, dedication and selflessness of our Navy SEALs, Army Rangers and Air Force spec war air crews.
Twenty two of the thirty were from SEAL Team Six, based in Virginia Beach. Many are our neighbors and friends. We don’t ask about what they do or when will they be back, but we do all we can to support families when they are gone.
The Father, Mother and Wife of Aaron Vaughn, one of the SEALs lost when their Chinook CH-47 went down, were on The Today Show this morning.
In describing Aaron, his Mother spoke of his humility and his love of God. All three spoke of his love for his country, and their firm belief in the strength of our country. This description fits with many of the SEALs that I have known.
Humility and love for God may not be qualities that many picture as the typical SEAL. Viewing the Today Show video of Aaron’s family gave me a great sense of compassion and respect for their strength. A strength which I sense comes from their closeness to a higher power.
Aaron, according to his Father, told him that there are sheep, sheep dogs and wolves and the SEALs are our sheep dogs, ever alert and ready to protect us. For Aaron and his team; for the aircrew and the military dog , whose name we may never know, I thank you.
“Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching:” Luke 12:37
My love goes out to Aaron’s family and all the families who mourn their fallen loved ones.
